Backgrounds and effects

Fill layers on a slide, the effect stack on a slide or an element, and 3D tilt.

A slide's background is a plain colour, because it is also the matte a JPG is flattened onto. Everything richer sits above it as fill layers: gradients, glows, grids, noise and images, painted in order, editable in the Inspector or as the :slide rule.

Effects

An effect stack is an ordered list, because compositing is not commutative. Effects project to a CSS filter, to a blend mode and to painted overlay layers, and the stylesheet reads a filter chain back so it stays a real way to write them.

A slide's effects

A slide carries the same effect list an element does, with one narrowing: blend is refused. What is behind an element is the slide; what is behind a slide is the pasteboard in the canvas and a flat matte in the export, so a blend mode there would make the two disagree.

3D tilt

A slide or an element can be tilted in three dimensions. The slide keeps its size and its coordinates; the canvas edits it flat, and the thumbnail, the preview and the export show the tilt.

Drag the pad to set the direction: up tips the top edge away, down tips the bottom away, left and right turn the nearer edge toward you. Both axes go either way and combine. Hold Shift to stay on one axis, double-click to flatten. The numbers beside it are the same two values and take a typed angle. Perspective is the viewing distance, and the in-plane rotation is separate and is kept.
