Canvas

Panning, zooming, selecting, snapping, and why the slide is finite.

The canvas is a preview of a finite slide, not an infinite workspace. When the slide fits the pane it is pinned to the centre and cannot be panned; when it does not, panning is bounded by the artboard.

Zoom is never in the document

At any zoom the tree still says x: 120, the Inspector shows 120 and the export puts it at 120. Zoom changes how closely you are looking and nothing else.

Moving and resizing

  • Drag to move. Arrow keys nudge by one slide pixel, or ten with Shift.
  • Corner handles on a text box scale the type; side handles resize the box.
  • Elements are kept overlapping the artboard, because anything fully outside it would not be in the exported image.
  • Double-click an image to crop it: drag to pan, scroll to zoom.

Right-click

The menu offers what applies to what is under the pointer and nothing else, with the key that would have done the same thing beside each entry. Right-clicking an element that is not selected selects it first; right-clicking one that is part of a selection keeps the whole selection. On empty slide, Paste here puts the clipboard at the point you clicked.

While you are typing into an element the browser's own menu is left alone, so spelling and text selection keep working.

Pasting a picture

Copy an image in another application and paste it on the canvas. A file on the clipboard is uploaded, an image copied out of a web page is fetched into the project, and both end as a file the project owns. Pasting while editing text still pastes text.

Guides and snapping

G toggles the grid, S toggles snapping. Snapping catches element edges, centres, the slide's own centre lines and the slide margins. An invisible guide is never snapped to.
